As some of knew may know I was born in Glasgow to an English Mother and a Scottish Father my Maternal Grandparents having met in Norfolk during the War . For some reason from an early age this left me with a great Interest in England and its History and Culture much more so than I was ever interested in the Scottish Equivalent . Industry is another great Interest of mine and working in Construction from time to time I have got to visit some of the Sites of these great Manufacturing Concerns and it always fills me with great sadness . Just now we are building on Peterborough Brickworks at Hampton Water , Bedford Brickworks is the same , Corby Steelworks is another , and only this morning I was out at RAF Alconbury where we are building too . Previously I have been involved in development at British Leylands former Longbridge Plant and also Aston Martins former Factory in Tickford Street Newport Pagnell . Most of these Industries had their heyday in what was now the Last Century and this was brought home to me by a conversation I had with a Young Bricklayer up in Corby yesterday , he didn't even know about the Steel Industry in Corby which for me beggars belief , it was only later when I did the Maths I thought how could he . What a Country we have become when People cant spot an RSJ made in Corby or a Brick stamped Bedford or dont realise the significance of a Street called Tickford Mews . Shit like this matters to me as I grow older and I am not sure why ?

It matters because of national pride, but more importantly, the production of goods to sell is what creates real wealth for all. Conversely, importing those goods is effectivelyimporting unemployment, and impoverishing all bu a wealthy establishment.
