I recently purchased a set of Spires stage 2 back boxes in a pretty sorry stare from eBay
As you can see the tips are really shot, but it was a good price so I thought I'd take risk. I contacted Spires who offered me a new set of tips for £360.
So after trying various methods, I took the plunge and bought an 80 grit flap wheel, a drill wire brush, a selection of wet and dry, 240 - 1000 grit and a polishing kit.
I was banking on the Spires tips being solid stainless steel and not chrome plated, I was not disappointed...
I cracked on with the wire brush inside the tips and a little on the edge to remove the thick carbon build up, then to the flap wheel to tidy it up. This left the surface rough but still with the original profile. I the went through the different wet and dry papers before finishing with the polishing mop. I'm very very happy with the results.
