Hi All, as above some times the car puts itself in manual mode when turning a corner normally when starting off, for instance pulling out of a side road. I suspect it might be the cancellation cassette behind the steering wheel (see link) as this incorporates the paddles mechanism, am I on the right track or should I be looking elsewhere, there are no fault codes recorded. Phil
I know that you are a very experienced driver Phil, and very familiar with the XF, but is it possible that you inadvertently touched a paddle when manoeuvering? It has happened to me occasionally, the first time causing a moment of concern, until the penny dropped.
Given there are no fault codes then it probably rules out electrical gremlins and things that are really broken. Your thoughts on cancellation cassette issue are probably as good a guess as can be made.
What I was trying to avoid is just changing parts until the problem disappeared. To pay for a new one (circa £160) to find the fault is still there hurts a bit. Phil
Before forking out for any parts, it would be worth checking for any damaged wiring to the cassette or paddles; if there is a short circuit simulating paddle operation that could have the effect you describe, and obviously would not record a fault.
