Fifty-one million diesel cars in Europe are still emitting three or more times the legal limit of nitrogen dioxide, but political leaders are still stalling.
Surely our politicians could force the offending manufacturers to pick up the bill, much as the US government did, although of course that would also involve admitting that they backed the wrong horse by believing vested interests and their own advisors.
Perhaps Gordon Brown should pay, personally.
