www.ebay.co.uk/sch/northboroughtools/m.html?item=293718653769&hash=item4462fefb49%3Ag%3AeuQAAOSwHitfBY3e&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562An old mate Terry from the JDC phoned me up this afternoon telling me he recently had a break in to his lock up over near Harpenden . Thankfully his cars were undamaged but instead his Tools which he had spent decades collecting were all stolen . Having been over at his House many times and indeed in his Garage , I felt really upset for him , many of these Tools were inherited from his father who had been gathering them up since the late 1940s and in many cases were older than the Jaguar Brand itself . There is something really enchanting about a properly equipped amateur workshop with a place for everything and everything in its place , the Engineer will doubtless appreciate what I mean . Heartbreaking to lose all that to some thieving scum . Anyway to get back to his call this afternoon he was on his way to see this Northborough Tools bloke hopefully to spend a few pounds , I asked him why not Sealey , Machinemart or even Halfords ? Close to seventy years of age is the journey over there worth the hassle ? I knew what his reply would be before I had asked the question , there is just something about old spanners and socket sets , a tactile trustworthiness that you just dont get with modern kit , in fact he reckons modern tools just arent as good and I understand what he means .

The Halford Professional range is excellent and come with a no quibble replacement guarantee. I'm not sure how good that is as I've not had the need to test it yet. I've had Halfords spanners for maybe 20 years and a normal socket set for 4 years + a set of impact sockets for about 4-5 years. Never an issue with any of them and I'd certaily be happy to buy again.
Most of the stuff on eBay is junk and I've found Sealey really isn't much better, most of their stuff seems to be badged Chinese rubbish. Machinemart seems to stock the same cheap Chinese sh*t also. I've no experience of Snap-On but they seem to have the garage market almost sown up, they just seem really expensive to me.
