I have been spending the last few weeks wandering around car lots with a view to making a move for another car early in the summer when I can get a better handle on how things are going to pan out . I simply cant raise any interest in spending any serious money in the present climate and judging by the cars static on the Autotrader most of the Country feels the same way . Well after much searching and a few test drives over the last few weeks of everything from M4 BMW and RS Audis to X351 XJRs and Mercedes SLs I have come down to two contenders and to be fair I have always suspected it would be these two . Neither of them are perfect but then what is ? One is a bit raucous like a grown up RS Escort whilst the other is a beautiful slice of old England , one will certainly appreciate in value whilst the other will probably pull more women . Anyone any clue so far ?

Females always like the Mercedes SL, or is that too obvious? As for a slice of old England with a V8; there are few possibilities; Jag, Aston, Bentley, unless you are including Anglo - American hot rods such as Jensen and Bristol. Hope you find something good, and tell us all about it.

You have mentioned looking at the SL previous so thats guess #1. 2nd guess would be a V8 Vantage

Thats nice! Those wheels really suit it. I have never seen them before. Are they factory optioned or aftermarket? As I've said before I definately think the pre face lift looks better than the latest effort, and will sound alot better to boot

At nearly ยฃ1400 per wheel, you can see why they are not that common.

Very nice, and the red / black interior is one of the few two tones which work well, imo. Obviously the F-Type has grown on you; sometimes we appreciate things more with familiarity. Silver is a colour few cars look good in.

Any further thoughts on this Paul? The more I look at the advert, the more attractive this car becomes; now that it's had its depreciation hit it looks good value. Unfortunately, (or fortunately?) all my spare cash is disappearing into a house shaped hole at the moment, and I probably don't need yet another V8.

Unfortunately, (or fortunately?) all my spare cash is disappearing into a house shaped hole at the moment, and I probably don't need yet another V8. Yeah its a beauty alright , I was just looking at a thread I started some years back on Jaguar Forum about buying second hand Jaguars and its still going strong , its great to know I can still spot them . Let me be straight with you , I have the money for it and much more besides . I have been struggling with a couple of issues , domestic problems with an educated girlfriend that despite her job and earning capacity apparently isnt that bright nor incentivised when it comes to buying a house . This whole Covid situation and how it will pan out regarding my Business . As I said earlier , given the time these cars are sitting on forecourts I am not alone in suffering a slight crisis of confidence . Few people are currently walking into showrooms and throwing ยฃ45k across the desk at a Salesman . Its a Lockdown Phil , I can't even drive it anywhere . Is it smart to lay out the money simply to watch it sit unused and depreciating ? That said however , sooner or later like back in the stone age man will emerge from his cave despite the threat outside , thats in our DNA and the Politicians will soon find that out .

I suppose ultimately as an Englishman you are always left in a quandary , Aston Martin hold a particular place in the Psyche and much of it is down to James Bond and the iconic DB5 . I often wonder what would have happened to Aston a Company which has spent most of its life on the verge of Bankruptcy if David Brown hadn't pulled of this masterstroke ? I read somewhere the other day the following comment , " Do you ever sit in a Jaguar wishing you had bought an Aston or do you sit in an Aston wishing you had bought a Jaguar " ?

Hard times are coming I think., I'd keep the cash for a rainy day than spend it on a toy which is only worth what somebody else will pay for it. If everyone feels the squeeze then offloading an Escort for example at a good price at a later date will be a lot harder (not impossible with luck though).

The trouble is that when you are self employed the money can be " hard earned " and not easy to replace once spent . A few weeks ago I went up to Joseph Cheaney for some new Brogues and a pair of Boots , struggling with Lockdown Blues I done in nearly ยฃ1000 . I sent a picture of myself and Terry the Cobbler to my old man along with a photo of the receipt . Two minutes later I got a reply which said " fvckin Idiot "

Its a lot of wedge but I think I am doing the right thing waiting for a month or so in order to see how Construction pans out . I was just listening to a bloke on the BBC who said we will be living with some sort of restrictions for the rest of our lives , this vaccine like I have said is not the panacea some people think

I think it's a smart move just waiting a bit. Construction doesn't seem to be doing too bad from what I can tell but that will only last for as long as plenty of liquidity. As soon as the people or business starts to feel the real pinch (I'm thinking higher taxes to pay for these annual vaccines, furlough and the untouchable NHS of course) the market could dry up very quickly if there is no ready cash. It's the little people who really are going to get hammered and worse still our children. I shudder think how my children are going to have to pay the sky high taxes. One thing not talked about with all this debt that is mounting up is the ongoing and very real pensions black hole in this country. I have no idea how that is going to be resolved. Sorry for the thread going off topic... I'll be quiet now.

I am fearing two things in Construction and thats Labour Shortage and Material Shortage especially the latter . In many cases suppliers are completely useless , I dont believe I have ever seen a situation where the supplier apparently treats his customer with complete contempt , ultimately this is where I come into the equation .
