Unashamedly copied over from the other forum. Give yourself a 10-minute break and read this . . .

Thank you for that John, confirming what I already knew; that generally the most "clean" diesels are actually the most dangerous to our health. The red herring of fixating upon CO2 emissions, otherwise known as plant food, was exactly what one might expect of unintelligent, ignorant and corrupt politicians, and officials. I am amazed that aside from the increased NOx emissions of modern diesels caused, I suspect, by the recent search for acceptable power, and less visible emissions, that none of this was apparently known by "experts" until relatively recently; I, and my fellow first year HND students knew about it fifty years ago. Perhaps all of the automotive "experts" used by government possess degrees, rather than knowledge.

I think you've perhaps missed the headline revelation though, Phil. That the petrol engine was chucking out way, way more NOx than the diesel. And that ISN'T fish food. But it's the testing regimes that really need scrapping and more "real life" testing introduced.

I did not miss that at all John, nor did I miss the fact that the petrol car was a clapped out twenty three year old Golf being compared with a diesel of the least polluting generation. With you 100% on the testing regime, and have been trying to educate anyone who would listen, and those who wouldn’t, regarding this for decades.

The bigger problem is that politicians and oil producers are in cahoots, so our money will continue to be traded between the two parties for their mutual gain. They have no interest in publishing the truth.

The bigger problem is that politicians and oil producers are in cahoots, so our money will continue to be traded between the two parties for their mutual gain. They have no interest in publishing the truth. The motor industry, which clearly knows the truth, bears much of the responsibility for this, especially the French and Germans who were, and still are, heavily invested in diesel production, all of the other sheep (including Jaguar) followed suit to retain, and gain market share, ie; out of greed, which makes them little better than paid killers. Similarly, when unleaded petrol was phased out in order to make catalytic converters compulsory, other, far superior, technology was available to dramatically reduce emissions, and fuel consumption, but this did not suit the European motor industry, nor the oil industry hence, nor ignorant government "experts".
